Iqaluit has added the Survivors’ Flag to its standing flag calendar for September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Council approved motion 26-194 on September 22 under its Council Flag Protocol Policy, CNCL 19-002. The motion says the flag is to be raised automatically each year. The registry records seven votes in favour and a unanimous result.

The September 15 Governance and Priorities Committee had recommended the same change unanimously in motion GP 26-50. Council’s vote puts that recommendation into the annual municipal calendar.

The decision provides continuity beyond a single year’s proclamation. The published agenda and registry do not give a ceremony time or location, so anyone planning to attend should check the City’s event notices for those details.
