Iqaluit policing by the numbers

The collection is incomplete, not necessarily the City’s reporting. We located detailed statistics for 2019, January–July 2022 and January–September 2026. Many older City links provide an agenda or minutes confirming a presentation, without the original statistical attachment in the files recovered so far.

Some categories changed. The 2019 table reports Sexual Offences as one category, not the later age split. It lists Drug Trafficking and Drug Possession separately, rather than the newer Controlled Drugs and Substances Act category. Territorial Acts was also grouped more broadly. Those differences should not appear as dozens of unexplained “not located” cells.

Some figures are unresolved. Conflicting annual and cumulative totals are flagged in the source notes. Homicide is not separately identified in the located tables; that does not establish zero murders. An omitted category here is not a zero.

We still need detailed offence tables for 2020, 2021, most of 2023, 2024 and 2025, plus August–December 2022 and clarification of category definitions. The original report archive below distinguishes reports, minutes and agendas.

Detainees are not unique people. A combined calls total is withheld while conflicting figures are unresolved.

These are the RCMP’s published figures. Some totals do not reconcile; the source differences below are retained. A blank monthly cell means the report did not supply that figure. The figures are not additional calls on top of the annual totals.

• 2019 calls: the original annual table prints 9,485 (9,476); the July 2022 chart prints 9,672. No unexplained variant is silently replaced.
• 2022 annual calls: the September 2026 chart visibly prints 1,184, below the 6,086 already reported through July. We retain that discrepancy here but do not use 1,184 as a reliable annual total.
• 2026 calls: offence-table monthly totals sum to 8,620; original monthly overview cells sum to 8,630; September’s reported YTD is 8,618.
• 2026 detainees: monthly overview cells sum to 1,602; September’s reported YTD is 1,888. Other overview series also need reconciliation. Both monthly and YTD cells remain available above.
• Needed: detailed full-year offence tables for 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025; August–December 2022 detail; remaining 2026 months when issued; homicide figures and category definitions for all years.
• Needed: confirmed annual calls for 2019 and 2022, reconciled 2026 overview totals, and clarification of whether older categories can be compared directly with newer ones.

This is a record of reported figures, not an independently verified crime database. Repeated copies and cumulative totals are not counted twice.
