Council approved two Astro Hill apartment buildings on August 25. The preceding committee debate focused on the mix of homes for families.

The planning report for DP 26-026 lists 118 units: 10 studios, 89 one-bedroom and 19 two-bedroom homes, in two five-storey buildings replacing Buildings 352 and 354. It lists no three- or four-bedroom units.

Two meetings, two votes

August 18 minutes name Aglukark, Kunuk and Matshazi in favour of recommendation GP 26-44, with Stevenson opposed. On August 25, Council approved motion 26-184 unanimously with four votes. Stevenson was absent, and Smith chaired. His committee opposition is not a Council no vote.

Keep the counts tied to their sources

The minutes discussion refers to 110 proposed units; the planning report specifies 118. The written description of existing units is also ambiguous beside the previously reviewed audio. Those differences need clarification before reporting a net housing gain or an exact number of family homes lost.

Approval is subject to the planning conditions, including a flow test and updated sprinkler servicing study before permit issuance, and a registered survey and utility easement before occupancy. It does not establish construction, occupancy or spare citywide water capacity.
